A burst glacial lake caused the Sikkim flood.

On 4 October 2023, heavy rains caused a lake on the Lhonak glacier in Sikkim, India, to breach its shores, causing an outburst flood.The flood reached the Teesta III Dam at Chungthang at midnight, destroying the dam in minutes before its gates could be opened. Water levels downstream in the River Teesta subsequently rose by up to twenty feet, causing widespread damage. Singtam, a town on the bank of Teesta is now fully submerged.
